Not getting caught in the rain with luggage, which was among the first things to happen upon arrival to Australia. Hopefully not an ominous foreshadowing of things to come, everything else has gone quite smoothly since landing safely yesterday. I am currently at the Queensland home of my wonderful friends, the Davidson family (Pictured). It became immediately apparent that I packed too much, and too hot. It's like, 35 degrees Celsius around here, which as someone with no knowledge of alternate measurement systems, equals "right hot" or "bloody hot" depending on who you ask. (Friend Niki bought lunch meat at the grocery store in milligrams the other day, how many milligrams does it take to make a sandwich?!).
The flight was approximately 14 hours overnight, but was quite pleasant all things considered. At this time I would like to salute the men, women, and pharmaceutical reps who brought us in-flight entertainment on demand and Ambien (TM) who made the voyage possible.
Next week I will venture to Melbourne, where the schedule is already filling up with all types of activities, some of which, may or may not involve parliament and penguins (not at same time, though oddly that has happend to me before at San Diego City Council "Sea World Day").
Did you know??...(Obligatory cheezy trivia sidebar) that about 84% of Australia's 20 million people live in coastal cities covering a mere 1% of this vast continent. Zero percent of which can buy Pop Tarts breakfast treats because they don't sell them here.
Did you also know?? That Paul Hogan, Australia's beloved 1980's Crocodile Dundee character may be going to prison on tax evasion charges?
